Course Overview

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of robot operations and programming using the SmartPAD (teach pendant) system. The course will cover essential skills required to operate and jog a robot, start and stop the robot machine, create, understand, and modify existing robot programs, configure a simple robot gripper, master the robot axes.

Course is suitable for

Automation / manufacturing personnel at many levels (Programmes, Service technicians, Engineers, Operators, Machine
setters); Automation integrators and distributors

Eligibility Criteria:

The course is fully funded under the skills to advance funds from Mayo Sligo Leitrim Educational Training Board, applicable to professionals:

  • Employed in a private sector
  • upskilling must be relevant to the business.
  • Application forms must be signed off by the owner or CFO/CEO or managing or financial director, or other authorised financial personnel.

Course Content:

  • Safety when working with KUKA robots
  • Recognising and avoiding hazards when operating KUKA robots
  • Overview of safety when operating KUKA robots
  • Advanced knowledge of the structure of a robot system. Robot, controller software structure and communication interfaces
  • Overview and use of the KUKA SmartPad (HMI/teach pendant)
  • Moving the robot manually, Axis specific, World, Tool, and Base
  • Performing commissioning/start-up tasks on the robot
  • Mastering the robot
  • Calibrating tool data: measuring the geometry and assigning the load data
  • Entering supplementary load data for the robot

Learning Outcomes:

  • Perform operating tasks on the robot such as moving the robot manually and starting the machine
  • Modify existing robot programs
  • Create robot controlled motion programs
  • Add and edit robot positions and restarting a robot production after a program stop
  • Perform start-up procedures such as creating tool and base frames, mastering the robot axes and more
  • Read and interpret robot controller messages
  • Create and use tool and base frame coordinate systems

Certification

A KUKA certificate is issued on successful completion of the course
